Posted by Aron on October 19 2002 (Saturday) : 01:02 AMEvery once in a while you read a book that seems to give voice to your most deeply held beliefs. As if the author looked inside your soul and said things you always wanted to say - but in a far more articulate and coherent fashion than you ever could. Chris Hedges' book is such a book for me. Go out and buy it - now! Here is an excerpt from the Introduction. I can only justify providing such a long sample as a way to get you all to go out and buy the book. This book is among the best books I have ever read about war, why it is part of human culture, and how we can deal with it properly. Anyone who finds this weblog useful, must read this book. You can read another interesting piece by Hedges here. < | >

"Entre los individuos, como entre las naciones, el respeto al derecho ajeno es la paz -- Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace" -Benito Juárez
"It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it." -Eleanor Roosevelt "Let them call me a rebel and welcome. I feel no concern from it. But should I suffer the misery of devils, were I to make a whore of my soul" -Thomas Paine | |
