Posted by Aron on October 17 2002 (Thursday) : 11:55 PMIt's hard to believe that seven years have passed since the murder of Yitzhak Rabin. It's hard to remember in these dark times the hope he brought to two embattled peoples. Though a flawed and complex man, he was nonetheless a true hero - a great man who was able to transcend his past and lead his country down a new path. Sadly, his successors all have led Israel back down darker paths. In this article, Israeli Arabs explain why they, too, mourn him. Says Arab MK Abdul Wahad Darawashe: "The reason why Rabin has a place of honor for every Arab citizen, and why his death was the first time when Arabs mourned a Zionist leader, is that he was the first and only leader who recognized the injustices of the past and actually worked to amend them. There was no prime minister who looked at Arab politicians the way he did - face to face." May Rabin's legacy be a beacon of hope and a light in the darkness. < | >
