Posted by Aron Trauring on September 19 2002 (Thursday) : 11:57 PMYoel Marcus is hardly a hard-core leftist. He is the typical middle-of-the road Israeli media columnist. So when I read this despairing piece, I was quite surprised. But I couldn't have said it better myself: "...we have become an autocracy, a regime that offers no alternative - even without a putsch." My mother put it well: "Sharon is a man with no imagination." The only response he could think of to todays attack in Tel Aviv is to re-enter Arafat's compound for the umpteenth time. And yet the Israeli public is quietly following him over the cliff like lemmings. It seems the American people are about to do the same with Bush. Human nature defies all rational expectations. < | >

"Entre los individuos, como entre las naciones, el respeto al derecho ajeno es la paz -- Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace" -Benito Juárez
"It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it." -Eleanor Roosevelt "Let them call me a rebel and welcome. I feel no concern from it. But should I suffer the misery of devils, were I to make a whore of my soul" -Thomas Paine | |
